The National Task Force on Drug and Substance Abuse has established five rehabilitation centres across Sierra Leone over the past two years as part of efforts to address the country’s growing drug crisis.
The disclosure was made by the Pillar Lead for Rehabilitation and Reintegration at the National Task Force on Drug and Substance Abuse, Ansumana Kanneh, during Tuesday’s Government Weekly Press Conference at the Miatta Civic Center in Freetown.
According to Kanneh, the rehabilitation centres are located in Hastings, Daru, Bo, Kono, and Makeni.

He revealed that approximately 784 individuals have undergone rehabilitation and reintegration programmes since the centres were established, with 88 percent of beneficiaries being male and 12 percent female.
Kanneh attributed the worsening drug crisis largely to the breakdown of family structures, stating that some reported cases involve parents directly engaging children in drug-related activities.
He urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility in guiding and protecting children from substance abuse and criminal behaviour.
The rehabilitation programme forms part of Government’s wider response to increasing concerns over kush abuse and other substance-related problems affecting young people across Sierra Leone.
