The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has officially commissioned the newly constructed Jendema Border Crossing Post in Pujehun District as part of efforts to strengthen border management, improve trade facilitation, and enhance revenue administration in Sierra Leone.
The commissioning ceremony brought together officials of the NRA Board and Management, traditional and community leaders, representatives of the Liberia Customs Authority, and other stakeholders, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation and effective border governance.
Delivering the welcome address, the Chiefdom Speaker of Sorogbema Chiefdom, A. J. Zoker, commended the NRA for what he described as a significant development initiative for the community and the country. He said the new border facility would contribute to revenue growth and improve service delivery at the border crossing point.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Customs, Mr. Tennyson Bio, said border security, trade facilitation, and revenue mobilization remain essential to national development and effective customs administration.
According to him, the newly commissioned facility will improve operational efficiency, strengthen compliance measures, and support legitimate cross-border trade between Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Mr. Bio further noted that the establishment of a modern border crossing post reflects the NRA’s commitment to improving customs operations and creating a more secure and efficient trading environment within the sub-region.
Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of the NRA Board, Mr. Kabineh M. Kallon, described the commissioning of the facility as a clear demonstration of the Authority’s commitment to modernization, institutional excellence, and improved stakeholder service delivery.
He stated that the NRA continues to prioritize reforms and infrastructure development aimed at enhancing revenue generation and strengthening the country’s border management systems.
The newly commissioned Jendema Border Crossing Post is expected to improve customs operations, enhance border security, and promote seamless and lawful trade activities within the Mano River sub-region.
The facility forms part of ongoing efforts by the NRA to modernize customs administration and support economic growth through efficient and secure border management systems.
