The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), has successfully restored water supply to Borma One, Borma Two and Borma Three communities in Kenema after residents in those areas went for more than five years without regular water supply.
According to information from SALWACO, the prolonged disruption in water supply was caused by damages to the company’s water pipe network during road construction works carried out by contractors in the township.
The restoration of water supply is expected to bring major relief to residents of the affected communities who have struggled for years to access safe and reliable water.
SALWACO Regional Manager-East, Braima Allieu, alongside Station Manager, Emmanuel Bayoh, and Station Administrative Officer, Stella Palmer, recently visited the Borma communities following several complaints and concerns from residents over multiple water leakages in the area.
The visit, according to SALWACO officials, formed part of an immediate response effort aimed at addressing the leakages and restoring effective water supply to the affected communities.
Following the assessment, a technical team was established to identify the damaged sections of the water distribution network and carry out the necessary maintenance and repair works within the shortest possible time.
Speaking on the development, Regional Manager-East, Braima Allieu, described the restoration of water supply as a major relief for residents of Borma and surrounding areas. He further noted that reconnecting the communities to the water supply network would also improve the company’s revenue generation.
SALWACO Station Manager in Kenema, Ing. Emmanuel Bayoh, together with Mr. Allieu, assured residents that regular water supply would continue once final testing of the repaired pipelines and additional minor maintenance works are completed.
The company also acknowledged the efforts of SALWACO management and members of the technical team who contributed to the successful restoration process.
Among those recognized were Technical Director South-East, Abu Kallon, Ing. John Hallowell, the Regional Operations and Maintenance Manager, as well as the technical staff in Kenema who carried out the repair works.
Residents in the Borma communities have welcomed the restoration of water supply, describing it as an important step toward improving living conditions in the area after years of water shortage.
