The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has participated in a two-week capacity-building training on women and children’s protection in Sierra Leone, hosted by the Chinese Government and the Ministry of Commerce, in Beijing, China.

The training equipped social workers, child protection officers, women empowerment advocates with the necessary skills and practical tools to protect women’s rights, empowerment, and child safety across Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone delegation led by the Policy and Strategic Planning Director, Ibrahim Kamara delivered an opening ceremony statement, expressing profound gratitude to the Chinese Government for continued support. He commended the Ministry of Commerce for providing Sierra Leonean officials with a seminar participation opportunity focusing on gender equality, women’s empowerment, child rights, protection knowledge, and skills enhancement.

Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs is mandated to promoting gender equality, advancing women’s socio-economic and political empowerment, strengthening child protection systems, and preventing and responding to violence against women and children.

Experts believe that addressing these issues requires continuous learning, innovative approaches, and the adoption of international best practices.

Sierra Leone delegation comprises officials with extensive professional and administrative experience advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, child rights, and protection nationwide. Participants expressed confidence knowledge gained will contribute significantly to improving child protection systems, expanding gender-transformative programmes supporting socio-economic empowerment of women and girls in Sierra Leone.

Concluding his statement, Policy and Strategic Planning Director, Kamara reaffirmed the Ministry’s active participation and commitment throughout the seminar and assured organizers of the fullest cooperation and determination to maximise learning opportunities.

The Capacity-building programme is expected to strengthen Sierra Leone-China collaboration while contributing to sustainable and inclusive development outcomes for women and children.
