Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has been honoured with a national public service award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contribution to public service in Sierra Leone.

The award was presented during a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs in collaboration with the Public Service Reform Unit at the Miatta Conference Centre in Brookfields, Freetown.

The event formed part of activities marking World Public Service Day and celebrated public servants whose dedication and professionalism have contributed to national development.

IGP Sellu was recognized for his commitment to public service, leadership within the Sierra Leone Police, and efforts aimed at improving professionalism, accountability, and efficiency within the force.

Since his appointment as Inspector General of Police by President Julius Maada Bio in 2022, Sellu has overseen a series of reforms intended to strengthen public confidence in the police and improve service delivery across the country.

His career in the Sierra Leone Police began in 1993 following his graduation from university. Over the years, he has held several senior positions within the force, including Chief Security Officer to former President Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, Director of Crime Services, and Local Unit Commander in the Ross Road, Goderich, and Kissy divisions.

He also served as Commandant of the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy, where he contributed to the training and professional development of police officers.

Speaking during the ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh reiterated the Government’s commitment to public sector reform and urged public servants to embrace innovation, professionalism, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Hon. Amara Kallon, described World Public Service Day as an important platform for recognizing excellence and dedication within the public sector. He encouraged public servants to remain committed to integrity, compassion, and citizen-centered service delivery.

The two-day event brought together government officials, policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders to discuss public sector reforms and strategies aimed at improving governance and service delivery.

The recognition bestowed on IGP Sellu reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Sierra Leone Police and promote professionalism, accountability, and public trust within the institution.
