The Benevolent Islamic Primary School on O.I.C Road celebrated a significant step forward with the unveiling of a brand new three-classroom building. Established in 2001 by the SLMWBO mission to promote education within the OIC community, the school previously functioned without a proper building for years.

This milestone comes courtesy of a generous land donation. The Brigade Commander at Teko Barracks Makeni played a pivotal role by contributing one and a half hectares of land, enabling the construction of these much-needed classrooms.

Sheku Tijan Cee, Secretary General of the SLMWBO mission, acknowledged the school’s past struggles. He pledged continued efforts to secure government subsidies, highlighting the need for more focus on this specific institution. While the mission has established numerous schools nationwide, Benevolent Islamic Primary School has not always received the resources it deserves. Cee commended the students’ impressive recitations of both the Holy Quran and English books, urging government and benefactors to step forward and support the school’s aspirations.

The school’s headmistress echoed Cee’s call for ongoing support. She emphasized the importance of engagement from former students, many of whom have achieved success but haven’t actively given back to their alma mater. She appealed to the mission to prioritize the school due to its historical significance and lack of proper infrastructure. Furthermore, she urged the government to provide financial aid and training opportunities for the school’s under-qualified teachers.

Gratitude was expressed to the Military for their land donation and to the school management disaster team for their contribution to the building materials. Representatives from both the Military and the Ministry of Education pledged their continued support, promising further assistance and advocacy for the school’s betterment.

The collective effort of all stakeholders – former students, government bodies, and the military – underscores a commitment to the educational goals of Benevolent Islamic Primary School. The unveiling of the new classrooms marks a new era of progress, paving the way for continued growth and success within the OIC community.
