The mother of the late former Director General of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), Momoh Konte, has reportedly passed away in Freetown.

According to information shared by social commentator on social media, the deceased, widely known as “Nna Fatu,” died a few minutes earlier at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.

Announcing her death, the report expressed sympathy over the passing of the elderly woman and referenced previous public controversy surrounding her living conditions following the death of her son.

“Rest in Peace Nna Fatu. Momoh Konte’s Mother has finally answered the call of her Master. She died a few minutes ago at the 34 Military Hospital,” report stated.

It further recalled events that followed the death of Momoh Konte in July 2020, alleging that the late NATCOM boss’s mother experienced harassment and eviction from her son’s residence.

“As you can recalled Momoh Konte’s mother went through harassment and evictions at her son’s house. Maada Bio and his government sent police and military officers to evict his mother and seize the house,” it claimed.

It also stated that he had publicly appealed to President Julius Maada Bio to allow the elderly woman to remain in the house because of her health condition.

“I advocated, cried and called on Julius Maada Bio to let the old, sick woman stayed in the house,”the report added.

The government has not officially responded to the claims at the time of publication.

Momoh Konte, who served as NATCOM Director General during the administration of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, died in a road accident in July 2020.

His death attracted national attention, with many Sierra Leoneans mourning his passing and recognizing his contributions to the country’s telecommunications sector.

The announcement of his mother’s death has since generated reactions on social media, with sympathizers extending condolences to the bereaved family.
