A delegation of musicians led by artist Empress P has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), Hawa Sally Samai, to explore collaboration on national peacebuilding initiatives on behalf of newly appointed Peace Ambassador, Abubakarr S. Turay, popularly known as Shady Baby.
The visit served as an initial engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation between the creative industry and the Commission in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion across Sierra Leone.
During the meeting, the delegation conveyed greetings from the Peace Ambassador and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Commission, noting their commitment to supporting national peace messaging through entertainment and creative expression.
Welcoming the team, Executive Secretary Hawa Sally Samai commended the initiative and highlighted the importance of engaging influential voices within the entertainment sector, particularly those with strong appeal among young people.

She noted that the upcoming Peace Day celebrations, along with ICPNC’s 5th anniversary, present a key platform to deepen nationwide awareness on peacebuilding efforts. According to her, musicians and creatives remain critical partners in shaping positive behaviour and reinforcing messages of unity among the youth.
“The Commission is looking forward to working closely with the new Peace Ambassador and your team. Your influence among young people is significant, and it is important that this influence is directed toward positive messaging that strengthens unity and national cohesion,” she said.
Madam Samai further stressed that sustained collaboration would help ensure a consistent national message on peace, adding that the Commission remains open to partnerships across all sectors of society to maintain harmony in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Peace Ambassador, Empress P described the appointment as a significant responsibility and reaffirmed the team’s readiness to support the Commission’s peacebuilding agenda.
She noted that although the Peace Ambassador role carries no financial benefits, it holds strong symbolic value in terms of influence, responsibility, and service, particularly within the music and entertainment space where youth engagement is most active.
“We are truly excited about this opportunity given to the Peace Ambassador. We see this as a serious responsibility, and we are ready to work with the Commission to promote peace across Sierra Leone,” she stated.

Empress P further assured that the team will align its activities with the Commission’s strategic priorities and work closely to ensure effective and coordinated peace messaging nationwide. She added that they are prepared to commence work following formal engagement with the Peace Ambassador and ICPNC leadership.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism about a strong partnership aimed at promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion across Sierra Leone.
