Proceedings in the Well of Parliament were suspended and adjourned following the announcement of the sudden death of Hon. Lucinda Finda Kelly, plunging the House into mourning.

Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, moved a motion for the suspension of all business on the Order Paper and for the House to adjourn in order to allow Members of Parliament to pay a condolence visit to the bereaved family. The motion was seconded by Deputy Opposition Leader, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma.

“The remains of our colleague are currently at the mortuary, and I do not believe we can continue with the sittings,” Hon. Kargbo said.

Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, joined the Opposition in expressing condolences and supported the call for adjournment. He requested Acting Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, to suspend proceedings to allow Members to mourn the late MP.

Hon. Silikie noted that Hon. Kelly would have been present to contribute to the day’s quorum but had been sadly taken by death. He further proposed that the House adjourn until Tuesday next week.

Acting Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, subsequently called on Members of Parliament to observe a moment of silence in honour of the late Hon. Lucinda Finda Kelly before adjourning the sitting.

Hon. Lucinda Finda Kelly, an All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament representing Kono District, was described as a vocal and committed legislator who actively participated in representation, lawmaking, and oversight duties in Parliament.

Her sudden passing has left colleagues in shock as the House prepares to formally pay tribute in subsequent sittings.
