Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) John Martin Senesie has addressed officers of the Operations Support Division (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police over issues of indiscipline and operational lapses.

The engagement, held at the OSD headquarters on Kingharman Road in Freetown, focused on concerns affecting discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency within the unit.

AIG Senesie raised issues including absenteeism, lapses in professionalism, and weak adherence to established procedures, urging commanders to take immediate corrective action. He stressed that restoring discipline and accountability within the unit is critical to strengthening the overall effectiveness and public image of the police.

He further warned that officers’ conduct directly reflects on the institution, cautioning against unethical behaviour, including the improper use of social media while in uniform, which he said undermines public trust. He called for renewed commitment to ethical standards, discipline, and respect for the chain of command.

Attention was also given to operational readiness, with AIG Senesie emphasising proper weapon handling, strict control of armouries, and full compliance with public order management protocols during deployments.

He reminded personnel that the rainy season increases operational demands and urged them to remain dedicated despite challenging working conditions. He also encouraged officers to position themselves for international training opportunities by maintaining valid travel documentation.

The engagement ended with officers of the Operations Support Division pledging to address the concerns raised and recommitting themselves to professionalism, improved service delivery, and the protection of public safety.
