A military court martial board in Freetown has found 25 soldiers guilty on all counts related to their involvement in the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023.

However, one of the accused, WO1 Sitta Dumbuya (RSLAF/18167293), was acquitted of all charges and released.

The high-profile trial has unfolded over the past several months against 26 defendants who are accused of plotting to overthrow the government of Sierra Leone.

The charges, which included mutiny, conspiracy, and murder, stemmed from the alleged actions of the soldiers during the attempted coup. The prosecution case, led by State Prosecutor Joseph Sesay relied on testimonies from 37 witnesses and over 180 pieces of evidence.

However, one of the accused, WO1 Sitta Dumbuya (RSLAF/18167293), was acquitted of all charges and released.

One of the accused persons, Sergeant Alhaji Koroma pleaded guilty to certain charges, implicating the remaining defendants and strengthening the prosecution’s case.

The Defense Lawyers are now making pleas prior to sentencing.
