The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., has urged bloggers to leverage their platforms to promote transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the launch of the Sierra Leone Association of Bloggers (SAB) on January 22, 2024, at the New Brookfields Hotel, Commissioner Kaifala emphasized the transformative power of social media in shaping public discourse and driving societal change.

“Social media has become a primary source of news and a critical tool for awareness and accountability,” Kaifala stated. He called on bloggers to responsibly use their platforms to disseminate anti-corruption messages, promote good governance, and project a positive image of Sierra Leone.

Highlighting the ACC’s partnership with bloggers, Kaifala pledged the Commission’s full support for the newly formed association, noting their potential to influence public perception and foster societal development.

Her Excellency, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the pivotal role of social media in advocacy. She urged bloggers to create impactful and ethical content addressing critical issues, including gender-based violence.

Joseph Sannoh, Founder and CEO of SAB, explained the association’s purpose as a unifying body for influencers, aimed at improving ethical standards, fostering members’ welfare, and enhancing their societal impact. He revealed that SAB has developed a comprehensive policy and strategic plan to guide its activities.

The launch event, attended by bloggers, media practitioners, and stakeholders, underscores the growing recognition of social media’s influence in combating corruption and advancing social accountability.
