President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, who also serves as Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has arrived in Lungi alongside First Lady Fatima Bio, President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

The presidential couple arrived to participate in the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which is currently underway at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre.

As Chairperson of the Authority, President Bio is presiding over the high-level summit, which has brought together leaders from across the 15-member ECOWAS bloc.

The summit is expected to deliberate on key regional issues, including peace and security, economic integration, democratic governance, and sustainable development. Leaders are also expected to review progress on ECOWAS protocols and discuss strategies to strengthen cooperation among member states.

The gathering at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre represents one of the major diplomatic engagements hosted in Sierra Leone during President Bio’s tenure as ECOWAS Chairperson.

Officials say resolutions from the summit are expected to shape ECOWAS’ policy direction in the coming months, particularly on trade, regional security challenges, and democratic consolidation in West Africa.
