Joseph Sannoh, a Civil rights activist and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Help Ease Agony in Life-Sierra Leone (HEAL-SL) – which champions educational causes – has expressed strong reservations about a recent statement made by Samura Kamara, leader of the opposition All Peoples Congress Party. Sannoh has labeled the address, given to party supporters and the nation, as ‘dishonest.’

Sannoh believes that Kamara’s remarks were tailored specifically to appease his party base and loyalists. He emphasized the importance of the 1991 constitution in governing the nation, asserting that the country’s sovereignty is rooted in this constitution.

“For me, Samura Kamara was not sincere, he was not honest and I did not see patriotism and love for the country and the people, I also see selfishness in what he said.” Sannoh said, emphasizing that leaders must exhibit prudence in both their actions and words at all times.

Highlighting Kamara’s extensive experience in national affairs, Sannoh pointed out that the opposition leader is well-versed in the proper channels for addressing concerns about national development, including potential election irregularities. “If there were genuine concerns about the fairness of the elections,” Sannoh argued, “the appropriate course would have been to approach the courts rather than stirring unrest among the populace.”
