The former Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), Sidi Yayah Tunis has recently informed members and supporters of the party that today will mark the deadline for nomination for various positions within the party.
According to him, in the exercise of the powers conferred on the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC) by the High Court of Sierra Leone and the October 2022 Transitional Rules and Regulations as gazetted; the ITGC, in consultation with the Transitional Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC), has slated Tuesday, 20th December 2022 for the conduct of all Ward elections countrywide; with 23rd December 2022 slated for Constituency; 28th December 2022 for District; 30th December 2022 for Regional; 3rd January 2023 for National Union of APC Students (NUAS), Persons With Disability Wing and The National Veterans Congress; 5th January 2023 National Young Congress, and National Women’s Congress elections.
Sidi Yayah Tunis further informed that details of the venues for the elections will be published by the ITGC in due course, adding that a sub-committee of 5 persons shall look into membership issues, new registration, audit, and update of the party register from Monday, 12th December 2022 until the National Delegates’ Conference (NDC), under Article 10 of the APC 2022 constitution.
He maintained that accordingly, the ITGC is requesting all intending candidates to make payments of the prescribed candidature fees in the Gazetted Rulos to the APC Account-1086762 at the Rokel Commercial Bank not later than today, Tuesday, 13th December 2022.
Bank slips of the aforesaid fees should be forwarded to the National Secretariat or the Designated District offices for the collection of application forms where ITGC officials will receive and process them.
He noted that all candidates wishing to contest must be registered and fully paid up, adding that only payments made through the APC account will be considered valid.
Diaspora applicants are required to forward copies of their pay slips and filled application forms through the Secretary Generals of the respective branches.
He also informed me that details for the submission of applications for the Diaspora Regional Convention will be communicated in due course.
