Sierra Leone’s First Lady Fatima Bio has been appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres to the advisory board of eminent persons to promote Zero Waste Initiative to advance the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
First Lady Fatima Bio’s appointment was made in an official letter dated 12th April 2023.
In the appointment letter, the UN Secretary-General stated that he can count on Mrs. Bio’s knowledge, experience, expertise, and commitment to promoting Zero-Waste Initiative.
He continued in the letter that he looked forward to the work she will undertake with fellow Board Members to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adding that he has asked the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to work closely Mrs. Bio.
He further stated that focal points from the organizations will contact her soon about the onboarding process as well as with details for the first meeting of the Board which will be held in September 2023, in New York.
“I welcome you once again to the Advisory Board on Zero Waste and trust that you will continue to be a champion on our journey to reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and to raise awareness and promote practices leading to progress towards a sustainable and prosperous future for people and planet”, the appointment letter reads.
