Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has received 15 protocol vehicles donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to support the country’s preparations for the forthcoming ECOWAS Summit.
The vehicles were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the Ministry’s Conference Room on Monday, July 7, reinforcing the longstanding diplomatic and development partnership between Sierra Leone and China.
The donation is expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s logistical capacity as it prepares to host Heads of State, government officials, and other high-level delegates attending the summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The vehicles will be used to facilitate protocol and transportation arrangements during the regional gathering.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Yong, said the donation reflects the enduring friendship between the two countries and demonstrates China’s continued commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s development and its increasing role in regional affairs.
Ambassador Zhao noted that the gesture represents another practical outcome of the strong bilateral cooperation that has characterized relations between Beijing and Freetown over the years.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, expressed appreciation to the Government and people of China for what he described as a timely and generous contribution.

He said the donation demonstrates the strong bilateral relationship founded on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared development objectives, adding that the vehicles will significantly enhance Sierra Leone’s readiness to host a successful ECOWAS Summit.
The Minister also commended the Chinese Embassy for ensuring the vehicles were delivered ahead of the summit, describing the support as a valuable contribution to the country’s preparations.
He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with China in strategic sectors, including trade, infrastructure, education, and healthcare, noting that the relationship continues to deliver tangible benefits for both nations.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the handover documents and a joint inspection of the vehicles by Ambassador Zhao Yong and Minister Kabba.
The donation further is deemed as longstanding cooperation between Sierra Leone and China while supporting the country’s efforts to host a successful ECOWAS Summit.
