Former President Ernest Bai Koroma is expected to return to Sierra Leone soon, with sources indicating that the Bio-led administration has decided to drop all charges against him, according to information emerging from a recent meeting between the All People’s Congress (APC) and the Attorney General.

The APC delegation, comprising Deputy Leader Ambassador Yansaneh, Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya Esq., and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, met with Attorney General Alpha Sesay to press for the swift implementation of Resolution 4 of the Agreement for National Unity.

This resolution focuses on the release of political detainees and the return of exiles, with Koroma’s case being a central point of discussion.

Attorney General Sesay described the discussions as “constructive,” emphasizing a “collective commitment to take this process to completion.” The APC’s primary focus was on expediting Koroma’s return and clearing his name.

Koroma, who is currently in Nigeria for medical treatment, had been facing charges related to an alleged coup attempt against President Julius Maada Bio’s government last year.

He has consistently denied any involvement. Despite the pending trial, the High Court granted him permission in January 2024 to travel to Nigeria for three months for medical reasons.
