The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide health facility cleaning initiative aimed at improving the cleanliness, appearance, and overall environment of hospitals and health centres across Sierra Leone.
The exercise, introduced by the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, will be conducted every last Saturday of each month and is designed to ensure that health facilities remain clean, decent, and conducive for patient care and recovery.

According to the Ministry, the initiative marks the beginning of a sustained effort to improve sanitation standards within the health sector and enhance the quality of service delivery across the country.
The nationwide exercise officially began at the Koidu Government Hospital in Kono, where senior officials from the Ministry of Health, led by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services, Dr. Mustapha Kabba, joined hospital staff in the cleaning exercise as a symbolic launch of the programme.

The Ministry said the initiative is intended to promote a culture of cleanliness, safety, and accountability within health facilities, ensuring that patients receive care in a more hygienic and dignified environment.
Health partners, including World Health Organization Sierra Leone and Partners In Health Sierra Leone, are supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve facility standards across the country.

Officials say the monthly cleaning exercise will be sustained nationwide as part of broader reforms aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure, patient experience, and service delivery outcomes in Sierra Leone.
