The Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation will host the West Africa Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF) in Freetown, from 11 May to the 15th May 2026.
According to the ministry, the forum serves as a vital multi-stakeholder platform, bringing together ministries, regulators, private sector leaders, innovators, and youth networks to form the region’s digital landscape.
This year’s forum is built upon the strategic theme “Data Sovereignty, Artificial Intelligence, and the Digital Market, and will be delivered through three dedicated tracks.”

Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Communication, WASIG 2026 focuses on training the next generation of policy leaders through the School of Internet Governance, while WAYIGF 2026 empowers young innovators to drive the digital economy forward.
Additionally, WAPNIG 2026 will bring together the Parliamentary Network to work toward harmonizing digital laws across West Africa.
Finally, the theme positions digital sovereignty as the practical capacity of West African States and regional institutions to govern digital markets, technologies, and infrastructures in ways that safeguard the public interest, protect users, and enable fair economic value creation.
Under the host leadership of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Communication moves from policy dialogue to concrete implementation of digital sovereignty goals.
