A total of 2,626 Sierra Leonean Hajj pilgrims joined about 1.7 million Muslims from around the world on the plains of Arafat on Tuesday to perform Wuquf, the most important pillar of the Hajj pilgrimage.

The pilgrims spent the day in intense prayer and supplication. While some remained in their tents, others gathered on the slopes of Jabal Al-Rahmah (the Mountain of Mercy), where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is believed to have delivered his Farewell Sermon over 1,400 years ago.

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mohammed S. Barrie, together with members of the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, visited the pilgrims at their tents to offer encouragement and address them.

Ambassador Barrie expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for enabling 2,626 Sierra Leoneans to perform this year’s Hajj. He also thanked President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for their continued support for the Hajj operations since 2018.

He commended Alhaji Murtada Sesay, Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, and his team for what he described as the smooth coordination of this year’s pilgrimage.

In his remarks, Alhaji Murtada Sesay congratulated the pilgrims for reaching Arafat, describing it as the climax of the Hajj. He encouraged them to uphold the spiritual lessons of Hajj and serve as role models upon their return home.

He urged them to demonstrate discipline, patience, and piety in their daily lives, adding that they should serve as ambassadors of Islam.

Meanwhile, pilgrims are expected to stone the three Jamarat with 21 pebbles seven at each pillar on Thursday and Friday before proceeding to Makkah to complete the remaining rites of Hajj.

A total of 1,707,301 pilgrims are performing this year’s Hajj in Makkah.
