The Operations Team of Motema Division on Friday, 1st May 2026, carried out a targeted anti-drug operation at the “One Bone” mining site in Kumao Town, Kono District, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the distribution and use of narcotic substances within the area.
The exercise, which was led by Operations Officer Inspector Abubakarr Kamara, focused on disrupting a suspected drug network believed to be operating within the mining community. According to security sources, the operation forms part of a broader enforcement strategy aimed at addressing drug-related activities in identified hotspots across the division.
Following the initial activity at the mining site, the team extended its outreach to Old Borom Road in Koakoyima Town, where officers engaged residents in sensitization discussions. The engagement emphasized the importance of community participation in reporting and preventing drug-related crimes, with residents encouraged to provide credible and timely information to support police operations.
Inspector Kamara, speaking briefly during the exercise, reiterated the police force’s commitment to sustained action against drug trafficking and abuse. He noted that such substances continue to pose a significant challenge to public safety, social stability, and youth development in affected communities.
He further stated that enforcement efforts would remain ongoing, with continued operations planned across areas identified as vulnerable to drug activity. According to him, the objective is to significantly reduce, and where possible eliminate, the presence of narcotic substances within the division.
The operation was supported logistically and tactically by the Operations Support Department, under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) James Demmah. The department provided coordination and response resources that contributed to the execution of the exercise.
Authorities say similar operations will continue as part of sustained efforts to strengthen law enforcement presence and community safety in the district.
