The 2023 Elections Presidential Candidate of Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Samura Kamara has sent a message of condolence to the Moroccan people after a devastating earthquake late on Friday local Moroccan time.

“My deepest condolences go out to the families who have lost loved ones and our thoughts are with all those grappling with this unspeakable tragedy,” Kamara said on his official Twitter page.

Kamara praised the resilience of the Moroccan people and encouraged rescuers to continue to search for survivors.

The earthquake has left over 2,000 people dead and hundreds more injured. Rescuers are struggling to search for survivors at Moulay Brahim village near Marrakech, the epicentre of the disaster.

According to geologists in the US, the 6.8-magnitude quake is the strongest recorded in the area in more 100 years.

Currently, some of the local people are sleeping in the streets afraid of aftershocks with one man telling Al Jazeera that there are cracks on the walls of his house.

Moroccan authorities have declared a three-day mourning as bodies found are already being buried in mass graves.
