Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) President Tuma Adama Jabbie appeared on AYV on Monday, 16 June 2026, where she discussed her tenure, the recent SLBA election, and issues relating to the Association’s membership.
Speaking during the interview, Madam Jabbie said the current executive had made significant efforts to fulfill the promises made when she assumed the presidency of the Association. She stated that within two years, the executive had delivered substantially on its commitments.
Addressing concerns over her affiliation with a political party, Jabbie said membership in a political party does not disqualify anyone from contesting for the presidency of the SLBA, citing provisions in the Association’s laws. She noted that previous presidents and executive members had belonged to different political parties, and such affiliations had never been used against them. She described the criticism surrounding her political affiliation as “a cheap campaign message.”
On the conduct of the recent election, Jabbie said some members had raised objections to the appointment of the returning officer and believed their actions would stop the process. However, she maintained that the election was successfully conducted over two days.
She further claimed that those criticizing the process would not have done so had the outcome been in their favor, adding that the negative reactions emerged only after she was declared winner. Jabbie emphasized that she was not involved in any unlawful act during the election and that her victory reflected the choice of the voters.
Responding to questions about her personal life, Jabbie said such matters should not be discussed on television or in the public domain, stressing that she was appearing in her official capacity as President of the SLBA. She, however, stated that she is legally married to Mohamed Gento Kamara.
On membership matters, Jabbie disclosed that at the start of the year, about 300 people had signed up. She encouraged members to avoid waiting until the last minute to register in order to participate in voting.
