Veteran journalist and President of the Guild of Newspaper Editors, Thomas Josephus Dixon, has questioned President Julius Maada Bio’s recent efforts and hosting of ECOWAS leaders, saying that a similar commitment throughout his seven years in office could have changed public perception of his administration.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Dixon noted that the level of work and attention President Bio has given to impressing ECOWAS leaders over the past two weeks has been remarkable.
He stated that if the President had maintained the same level of energy and commitment throughout his seven years in office, “people would have been shouting for more time.”
Dixon also suggested that a cabinet reshuffle could be on the horizon after the conclusion of the ECOWAS engagements, saying he would not be surprised if President Bio makes changes to his cabinet.
His comments come as Sierra Leone hosts the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, bringing together regional leaders and officials for discussions on key issues including security, economic integration, and regional cooperation.
President Bio, who currently serves as Chairman of ECOWAS, has been leading Sierra Leone’s hosting of the regional bloc’s activities, with several high-level meetings held across the country.
The ECOWAS summit has placed Sierra Leone in the spotlight as the country seeks to demonstrate its capacity to provide leadership and strengthen its role in regional affairs.
