A high-ranking agriculture delegation from Vietnam’s prestigious research institutes will visit Sierra Leone this week to build on the countries’ bilateral relationship and to deepen cooperation on Agriculture.
The visit will allow the insightful exchange of ideas on Agricultural development.
Both Vietnamese and Sierra Leonean farmers feature in a major new book ‘ The Azolla Story’. This book explains the amazing take of nature’s miracle plant over 50 million years and its potential to help Sierra Leone fight climate change.
Used for thousands of years in Vietnam as a nutritious livestock feed and natural fertilizer, scientists’ findings show how Azolla can boost rice yields, reduce farmers’ costs, and store 4 times more planet-heating carbon dioxide (Co2) per acre than trees, helping tackle climate change.
Explaining how Azolla helped reduce temperatures by 6 degrees 47 million years, as well as its role in space research today. The ‘Azolla Story’ sets out a road map to a future where Azolla’s many use the world transition to sustainable societies and is written by Jonathan and Alexandria Bujak and Published by the Azolla Foundation.
The agricultural delegation’s visit kicks off the research element of the MOU signed by the governments of Sierra Leone and Vietnam last year to develop a cooperative programme for intensive rice production utilizing natural fertilizers such as Azolla.
