So this guy was making a case that I rather consider to be insensitive. I’d not go into its illogical norms. This is not a critical thinking lecture/discourse. Today, I am talking and writing about how some of our countrymen are consciously misusing drugs much to the dissatisfaction of other persons. And yes, if you’re in Sierra Leone or any other part of the globe, you may have seen or heard of security personnel that are believed to have been under the influence of harmful if not deadly substances.

In Freetown, the fact that some youth have restored to having such drugs for whatever reason is an expression of the obvious. There are streets and corners around town that are homes to these people. When you visit such places, you’re likely not going to ask anyone because everything will be visible. From the way how some of them may be shabbily dressed, to the dirty and unfit for purposes appearances; one hardly understands what’s really happening. To make matters worse, some of our security forces have joined the train. I am not surprised that some of them are beginning to get fired. We should not compromise this situation.

Sierra Leone is a place where some of our compatriots will just wake up one morning and decide to be lawless and unruly. Some of them will blame the situation on hardship and high cost of living. The question is, are these drugs and or substances free? Are they not bought and or paid for? If food is the big deal at all, why not use the same cash to get solid food? I do not know about the prices, but we still have breads that cost Le 2/3? Anyway…

It is prudent for us to condemn these occurrences. They do not send a good message at all. Irresponsible intoxication that has the penchant of disrupting public safety and morality should have no place in society. This should be as easy as drinking water. Again, some of our countrymen that find pleasure to record these acts should also use some utilitarian norms. What is the intention to have sent such videos online? We should be mindful of certain implications before we take actions.

On responsibility, you are a security personnel or let’s even say an ordinary citizen who does whatever for a living. Why would you resort to being an object of societal mockery and verified nuisance? Individualistic intelligence really matters in all of this?

The remedy? I don’t know if it’s possible to put a ban on the important of these harmful substances. I also don’t know if the usage would or could be limited to medicinal purposes only? Regulation is key here. Who are the retailers and where do they get wholesales? Can we be more strategic in all of this? Ministry of Health, are we saying that we have leakages in imports and exports? I am journalistically urged to ask these cautions? Can the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau, the National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency, Health for All Coalition, Newsmen, Sellers and Buyers play some very vital roles? Maybe this is doable if we all decide to tolerate the rightist principles?

May God help us, Aameen/Amen. Please choose what works best for there!
