Prof. Ibrahim Bangura, a candidate for the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearership, has proposed a leadership model centred on institutional competence, economic discipline and national cohesion as the party prepares for its August 2026 National Delegates Conference in Port Loko.
Bangura’s campaign platform emphasises fiscal discipline, transparent resource management and expanded economic opportunities for youth and women, according to a statement from his movement. The aspirant has framed his bid as an opportunity for the APC to move beyond personality-driven politics and embrace results-oriented governance.
The APC will hold its National Delegates Conference from 9 to 12 August at Bai Bureh Hall in Port Loko Township, following a National Advisory Council vote that selected the venue. The party’s flagbearer contest has drawn significant public interest amid preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Bangura, described by supporters as a security and peace expert with international experience, has conducted community engagements across multiple districts. His “Heal, Unite, Build” message has resonated with party members seeking a unifying figure following internal divisions.
The aspirant has pledged to support free and fair lower-level party elections as a foundation for a credible national conference. His policy priorities include strengthening public institutions, promoting productive investment and restoring what he describes as accountable, service-oriented governance.
A women’s group within the APC, the DIB Iron Ladies, has endorsed Bangura’s bid, citing his focus on inclusion and community-level engagement. His campaign has also proposed development strategies including a Blue Economy plan aimed at leveraging ocean resources for sustainable growth.
Bangura’s leadership proposition places national cohesion, constructive dialogue and institutional respect at the centre of Sierra Leone’s future development, according to campaign materials. The candidate advocates replacing political antagonism with cooperation and patronage with merit-based advancement.
