Former Presidential Candidate Olufemi Claudius-Cole of the Unity Party (UP) expressed her deep dissatisfaction with the corruption involving the Clerk of Parliament in Sierra Leone.

In a passionate statement, she decried the state of affairs in Sierra Leone, exclaiming, “Oh Salone! We all osh oh! We are now a bona-fide banana republic!”

Claudius-Cole highlighted her concern about corruption that was supposed to be eradicated, now seemingly resurging and prevailing. She criticized the lenient response to the alleged criminal activities of the Dominion clerk, stating, “Corruption that was supposed to be made unpopular has now fought back and won! A Dominion clerk embroiled in criminality gets a presidential hug, a kiss, and a cuddle, a tap on the wrist, and a suspension.”

Drawing attention to the political landscape, she criticized the lawyer, now a Supreme Court judge, under whose chairmanship political party conflict and disenfranchisement escalated. She questioned the swift progression from lawyer to Supreme Court judge, bypassing the high court and appeals court, metaphorically describing it as “Jet propulsion!!”

Claudius-Cole raised a red flag, suggesting that the stage is being set for the “bastardization of the constitution.” She urged the public to remain vigilant, stating, “Let’s wait and see! May God help the people of Sierra Leone, for we know not what we face! For we are on the precipice with one foot dangling off the cliff.” The use of the term “precipice” underscores the seriousness of the situation and the potential peril facing Sierra Leone.

This public expression of dissatisfaction by a prominent figure like Olufemi Claudius-Cole sheds light on the perceived challenges to democracy and governance in Sierra Leone. It prompts a call for increased scrutiny and accountability in addressing allegations of corruption and political impropriety.
