The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has accused Kasho Holland-Cole, Chairman of the Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC), of orchestrating acts of sabotage that allegedly disrupted electricity expansion efforts in the district.

Speaking during an interview on Epic Radio, Mambu claimed that Holland-Cole deployed individuals to vandalize infrastructure in Tombo, preventing the government from extending power supply to the area.

If Kasho Holland-Cole had not sent thugs to burn the poles in Tombo, we the SLPP Government would have provided electricity there by now,” Mambu stated.

Holland-Cole has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some critics accusing the government spokesperson of making unfounded claims, while others dismissed the statement as unserious. The accusations come amid ongoing challenges in expanding electricity access across Sierra Leone, where many rural communities continue to lack reliable power.

In towns such as Waterloo, residents still face limited access to electricity. During the first term of the SLPP administration, efforts were made to connect parts of the Western Area Rural District to the national grid. However, projects reportedly suffered setbacks when infrastructure installed by the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority was destroyed. Authorities at the time alleged that individuals linked to the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) were responsible.

Despite these challenges, some parts of the district have since gained electricity access, though not through the national grid.

Holland-Cole remains a prominent political figure in the district, having won the last three local elections by significant margins.
