The new Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., has pledged to promote cooperation and mutual respect among key sporting institutions in Sierra Leone as he prepares to officially assume office.

Conteh made the statement during his first public appearance at the turning of the sod ceremony for the construction of a pavilion at the headquarters of the Sierra Leone Football Association. The event marked his first engagement with major stakeholders in the country’s sports sector since his appointment.

Addressing officials and guests at the ceremony, Conteh stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy working relationship with the Ministry of Sports and other sporting bodies to ensure the smooth development of sports in the country.

“I will not use the NSA Act as a show of power that will create issues between me and my boss, the Minister of Sports,” Conteh stated.

His remarks were widely viewed as a signal of his intention to adopt a conciliatory and collaborative leadership approach during his tenure at the National Sports Authority.

Conteh further affirmed the need for unity and institutional cooperation, especially between the NSA, the Ministry of Sports, and the Sierra Leone Football Association, noting that effective collaboration remains essential for the growth and advancement of sports across the country.

The statement comes at a time when many sports stakeholders continue to emphasise the importance of stronger coordination among sporting institutions to improve governance, infrastructure development, and athlete support in Sierra Leone.

The turning of the sod ceremony at the SLFA headquarters brought together sports administrators, football officials, and other stakeholders, serving as an important platform for Conteh to publicly outline his vision of partnership and mutual understanding ahead of taking office as Executive Director of the National Sports Authority.
