A 29-year-old fisherman, Alhaji Kamara, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually penetrating an eight-year-old girl.
As confirmed by a report from Sarah Kallay, the ruling was made by Justice Adrian Fisher at High Court No. 1, located on Siaka Steven Street in Freetown.
Kamara was charged under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012, as amended by the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 2019. The court heard that the offense occurred between January 1 and January 31, 2024, in Freetown, where Kamara engaged in sexual acts with the minor.
During the trial, the victim reportedly testified about the incident, stating that she was unwell at home when Kamara approached her.
She claimed that he administered substances believed to be Tramadol, which caused her to lose consciousness. While she was incapacitated, Kamara reportedly engaged in sexual intercourse with her in her mother’s bedroom.
The victim did not report the incident immediately but later informed her mother after an examination revealed that her hymen had been broken. She identified Kamara as her assailant, although she could not specify the exact date of the incident.
Defense counsel, Randy Bangura, Esq., pleaded for leniency on behalf of the accused, but Justice Fisher ultimately imposed the maximum sentence of 25 years, emphasizing the severity of the crime against a minor.
