The recently concluded Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, has taken a new turn as Yatta Ansumana’s campaign team has reportedly rejected the outcome of the polls.
The election, held on August 2, 2025, ended with Denzel Duramany-Lakkoh declared the winner. According to official results released by the IPAM Electoral Commission, Denzel secured 981 votes, representing 70.83 percent, while Yatta received 377 votes, amounting to 27.22 percent. Out of a total of 1,385 votes cast, 1,358 were valid and 27 ballots were skipped.

According to reports, a press release from Yatta Ansumana’s team surfaced on social media days after the results were announced, claiming that the election process was not credible. The statement described the election as rigged and alleged that some university staff interfered with the process. It also claimed that many eligible students were unable to vote due to issues with the electronic voting system.

The release went on to call for an independent investigation and a rerun of the election. It stated that the results had been rejected by the candidate’s supporters.
In a recent development, some students were seen holding placards around campus. Messages on the placards included “IPAM Students Demand for a Re-run SUG Election” and “Denzel Not Our Legitimate President.” These reflect dissatisfaction among part of the student body regarding the outcome of the election.

While the official commission maintained that the election was peaceful and well-organized, the statement from Yatta’s team presents a different view, raising concerns over transparency and student participation.
As of now, no official response has been issued by the IPAM Electoral Commission regarding the allegations. The student body remains divided as the situation continues to unfold.
