U.S. President Donald Trump offered an unexpected personal compliment to Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio during his closing address at the fourth FII PRIORITY Summit on Friday, telling the gathered audience he loved the West African leader’s name.
“Maada Bio, I love that name, thank you!” Trump said from the stage at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach, acknowledging President Bio’s presence at the Saudi-backed investment conference .
The lighthearted remark came as Trump delivered the summit’s keynote address, capping three days of discussions focused on global investment trends under the theme “Capital in Motion”. The event drew more than 1,500 participants, including government officials, business executives, and investors from around the world.
President Bio, who was the only African head of state invited as a featured speaker at the summit, had delivered his own keynote address earlier in the conference. He used the platform to call for a more inclusive global economic system, urging world leaders and investors to prioritize human capital development and sustainable growth.

“Our focus is on building human capital as the most sustainable pathway to economic transformation,” Bio said, highlighting Sierra Leone’s Free Quality Education initiative.
The Sierra Leonean leader emphasized that Africa is ready to partner with international stakeholders to unlock opportunities for growth and innovation, while also calling for greater support for vulnerable nations disproportionately affected by climate change.
Trump’s appearance at the summit marked his second consecutive year addressing the FII Priority conference, which is organized by the Future Investment Initiative Institute and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. His remarks focused heavily on U.S. foreign policy and the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has dominated global economic discussions amid concerns about energy supply disruptions.
The summit brought together a wide range of global figures, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
