Leading telecommunications company Africell and mobile financial service provider Afrimoney have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation.

The agreement, signed earlier today at the Africell office in Freetown, marks a significant milestone for the sport as it signals renewed corporate support ahead of the much-anticipated national basketball league tipping off this evening.

The 2026 league campaign gets underway at the Stadium Basketball Court, with an exciting opening fixture set for 6:00 PM as Sierra Titans face Dock Cannol. Later in the night, defending champions Forcian will begin their title defense against Archibald Red Flames in an 8:00 PM showdown.

This year’s competition will feature 10 teams divided into two conferences, intensifying the level of competition as clubs battle for playoff qualification. Teams within the same conference will meet twice, while inter-conference clashes will occur once – a format that ensures every game carries significant weight in determining standings.

With strong backing from Africell and Afrimoney, expectations are high for an improved and more competitive season, as stakeholders look to elevate basketball’s profile and create greater opportunities for local talent.
