The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced the death of former Leone Stars midfielder Mohamed Kamara, popularly known as Ahmed Polo, describing him as a “true servant of Sierra Leone football.”

In a condolence statement released on April 6, 2026, the SLFA expressed deep sadness over the loss of a player whose passion, dedication, and commitment to the national team, it said, “will never be forgotten.”

“His contributions on the pitch brought pride to our nation and inspired many young footballers across the country,” the association said.

Ahmed Polo, who played primarily as a defender, was a key figure in Sierra Leone’s national team setup during the early 2000s. Born on August 8, 1980, he earned at least five caps for Leone Stars, featuring in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches between 2000 and 2003.

His international appearances included a World Cup qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe on April 8, 2000, as well as fixtures against Gabon in 2002 and 2003, and a two-legged World Cup qualifier against Congo in October and November 2003.

At club level, Polo enjoyed a distinguished career in Sierra Leone’s domestic football scene. He played for Mighty Blackpool FC from 1999 to 2002 before moving to Kallon FC, where he remained from 2002 until 2010. Both clubs are among the most storied in Sierra Leonean football history.

The SLFA extended condolences on behalf of its President, Executive Committee, and the entire football family to Kamara’s family, friends, former teammates, and all who were touched by his life and career.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to live on in Sierra Leone football,” the association said. “Rest well, Ahmed Polo.”

Fans and former teammates have also taken to social media to pay tribute to the late midfielder, recalling his discipline, composure, and leadership on the pitch. Many described him as a quiet but commanding presence who gave his all for the national colours.
