Ramsy Medical Laboratory commenced a nationwide hepatitis B screening and vaccination exercise for staff of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Monday, 20 April 2026.
The health initiative was launched at the Trust’s headquarters on Walpole Street, Freetown. According to NASSIT, the exercise aims to promote a healthy workforce.
Director General Mohamed Fuaad Daboh oversaw the start of the exercise. In his keynote address, Daboh said staff welfare is a pillar of NASSIT’s operational success. He stated that for NASSIT to effectively deliver on its mandate of providing social security to Sierra Leoneans, its workforce must remain physically fit and mentally prepared.
“A healthy workforce is the bedrock of our productivity. By prioritising these screenings, we are not just protecting individual lives but safeguarding the future of our institution. Early detection and prevention are the most cost-effective ways to manage health, and we are committed to ensuring every staff member has access to these life-saving services,” Daboh said. He encouraged all staff to participate in the exercise.
Dr Jacob Mansaray of Ramsy Medical Laboratory said corporate health interventions are crucial to Sierra Leone’s national effort to reduce hepatitis prevalence from 13.8% to under 5% by 2030. He described the collaboration as a shared commitment to improving public health outcomes and said Ramsy Medical Laboratory has provided clinical diagnostics in Sierra Leone for over 30 years.
According to the team, the exercise will include Hepatitis B screening using rapid diagnostic kits, vaccination services to provide long-term immunity for those who test negative for Hepatitis B, and clinical counselling sessions with one-on-one consultations to help staff understand their results and maintain liver health.
