The Sierra Leone Government, through the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, is set to host a Civic Town hall meeting in Lungi on 19 May 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to deepen public engagement on key national governance issues.
According to information released by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the town hall meeting forms part of the Government’s Salone Civic Day Series aimed at promoting dialogue between citizens and the state on major national policies and development programmes.
The engagement in Lungi will focus on the Government’s proposed Redistricting Plan, which includes plans for Lungi to attain city status as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery at the local level.
The Ministry stated that discussions during the town hall will also cover the planned 2026 Population and Housing Census, the Constitutional Review process, the Government’s 300 Days Activism initiative, and other emerging governance issues affecting the country.
Authorities say the engagement is intended to provide citizens with the opportunity to better understand Government policies while also allowing residents to share their views and concerns on issues affecting their communities.
The proposed elevation of Lungi to city status is expected to play a major role in expanding administrative structures and supporting development initiatives within the area, especially as the Government continues to pursue decentralisation and local governance reforms.
The Information Ministry said it is encouraging residents of Lungi and surrounding communities to take part in the town hall meeting, describing it as an important platform for civic participation and national dialogue.
