Former presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, has written to the party’s Elders Council proposing an expanded engagement aimed at resolving the ongoing internal impasse within the opposition party.

In a letter dated 29th April 2026 and addressed to Hon. I.B. Kargbo, Executive Secretary of the APC Elders Council at the party headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown, Kamara expressed readiness to participate in what he described as “genuine efforts” to restore unity and democratic purpose within the party.

He said such efforts should be anchored on the founding ideals of the APC, which he noted include winning elections democratically and implementing national development programmes in the interest of members, supporters, and the wider country.

Kamara reaffirmed his long-standing position on what he termed “electoral justice and democratic legitimacy,” reiterating his claim that the outcome of the 24 June 2023 multi-tier elections remains unresolved in the minds of many party supporters.

He alleged that despite initial declarations of victory by the APC, the party later “relinquished governance,” a situation he described as deeply disappointing to members and supporters. He further suggested that some actions and public statements by senior party stakeholders amounted to “anti-party activities,” though he stressed the need for reflection and corrective engagement rather than division.

According to him, the developments following the 2023 elections have raised serious questions about democratic accountability and public trust, both within the APC and the wider political system in Sierra Leone.

Kamara confirmed his willingness to attend any proposed expanded meeting that would address key post-election issues, including the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and recommendations from the Tripartite Committee. He said discussions should also confront declining public confidence in the party’s national leadership and future governance structures.

He further indicated that, if necessary, he would participate in such engagements through a delegated team with full authority during initial stages of dialogue.

In addition, Kamara requested a copy of the report of the APC Nine-Man Committee, stating that it would be relevant to ongoing discussions aimed at resolving the internal crisis.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to the Elders Council for its continued efforts toward reconciliation and party stability, while reiterating his commitment to a resolution process that reflects the aspirations of APC supporters and restores confidence in the party’s direction.
