Prominent All People’s Congress (APC) figure, Alimamy P. Koroma, has disclosed that he was approached by representatives of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ahead of the 2018 general elections with a proposal to serve as running mate to then-presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio.
Speaking during an interview on Epic Radio, Koroma said he rejected the offer because of his long-standing loyalty and commitment to the APC.
According to him, his political allegiance to the APC has remained firm since officially joining the party after 2005, stressing that he has consistently served the party with dedication throughout the years.
“I rejected the proposal because of my loyalty and commitment to the APC,” Koroma stated during the interview, adding that he has never wavered in his support for the party.
Koroma also reflected on his relationship with former President Ernest Bai Koroma, describing him as both a close associate and a personal friend. He revealed that his decision to leave an international position and return to Sierra Leone was influenced by a desire to contribute to the former president’s vision for national development.
“President Koroma remains a distinguished colleague and a personal friend. My decision to resign from an international post was predicated on a desire to return to Sierra Leone and contribute to the realization of his national vision,” he said.
The revelations have generated political discussion across the country, particularly concerning the behind-the-scenes negotiations and strategic engagements that took place prior to the 2018 elections.
Political observers say Koroma’s comments provide fresh insight into the political calculations that shaped the electoral landscape during that period, while also reaffirming his continued loyalty to the APC.
