A rainstorm that swept through Freetown in the early hours of Sunday has reportedly left parts of Aberdeen experiencing low electricity voltage, prompting concerns among residents over possible damage to household appliances.

Several residents told Sierraloaded that the power supply dropped significantly following the heavy rainfall. One resident, Abibatu Jalloh, said the low voltage has made it difficult to use basic electrical appliances in her home.

“We noticed this morning that the power is very low, and I’m forced to switch off my metre to avoid further damage,” Jalloh said, adding that the voltage was insufficient to power all the light bulbs in her house.

As of the time of publication, the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) had not issued any official statement regarding the reported power disruption. However, the utility provider often suspends electricity supply during heavy rainstorms as a precautionary measure to protect infrastructure and ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, pedestrians and motorists have also called on EDSA to address concerns over some electricity poles that are reportedly leaning along the busy Congo Cross Bridge.

Road users warned that the condition of the poles poses a potential threat to public safety and urged authorities to carry out immediate repairs.

“Today is the perfect day for EDSA to fix these poles since the streets are less busy on Sundays,” said Yusuf, a jogger who frequently uses the route on Sundays.

Residents fear that if left unattended, the combination of low-voltage electricity issues and unstable electrical poles along one of the city’s busiest highways could lead to serious consequences, including power outages, traffic accidents, electrocution risks, property damage, and danger to both pedestrians and motorists.
