A resident of Yams Farm, Haja Gbla, has alleged that medical personnel at the government hospital in Magburaka left surgical equipment in her abdomen following a cesarean section, leading to years of severe health complications.
Gbla recounted that she travelled from Freetown to Magburaka to give birth, where she underwent a C-section performed by what she described as “learner doctors” or intern medical practitioners. According to her, she was later informed that some instruments had been mistakenly left inside her stomach after the operation.
She explained that the situation only came to light when the medical team prepared for a second procedure and could not locate the missing equipment, prompting the discovery that it had been left inside her body.
Gbla said she subsequently underwent another operation to remove the items. However, she alleged that after the procedure, the doctors were unable to properly stitch her back, resulting in persistent health issues.
“Since that day, I have been feeling sick,” she said, adding that she has been battling complications for the past 10 years.
Due to financial constraints, Gbla noted that she had to relocate to Magburaka to continue seeking medical attention.
She is now appealing to the public and relevant authorities for assistance, stating that the alleged medical errors have significantly affected her health and quality of life.
Gbla is calling for urgent support to enable her to access advanced medical care in hopes of regaining her health.
