Her Excellency Madam Fatima Jabbie Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, on Sunday 9 th February 2025 officially turned the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) office in Pujehun district.
The event drew a diverse crowd, including paramount chiefs, schoolchildren, party supporters, government officials, security personnel, and members of the press.
In her keynote address, Dr. Fatima Jabbie Bio expressed her delight at the significant step taken by party stakeholders to establish a modern party office. She described this initiative as a milestone in the development of the SLPP, emphasizing the importance of having permanent party offices rather than relying on rented spaces. The First Lady proudly highlighted her contributions to similar projects in Kono, Moyamba, kailahun and Bonthe, calling the new office in Pujehun a “blessing in disguise.”
Dr. Bio urged party members to maintain discipline and encouraged those with grievances to approach the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to unlawful actions.
In a show of support, she announced the donation of 1,000 bags of cement for the construction, which is expected to be delivered soon. She called on other well-wishers to contribute as well, stressing that every effort counts towards the party’s growth.
Ambassador Saffa Wuyah Rogers, Deputy Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, and a pioneer of the construction project, described the day as a fulfillment of a long-held dream. He recounted his efforts over the past few years to gather support for the initiative, revealing that they had raised a significant sum of NE LE 324,341.68 cent to kickstart the building project.
Madam Jenneh Gbonda, the district women’s leader, praised the First Lady’s visit as a significant blessing for Pujehun. She commended Dr. Fatima Bio for her commitment to human capital development and the construction of modern facilities across the country. Gbonda appealed for the First Lady’s support for Pujehun’s women, many of whom are single parents or widows, urging all to embrace the party for collective benefit.
Chairman of the SLPP in Pujehun, Ambassador Eddie Massalay, addressed the crucial transitional phase the party is currently undergoing. He emphasized the importance of having a comprehensive database of all registered and paid-up members, assuring party members that the party cards are intended for this purpose. Massalay called on everyone to act as role models and to promote a positive image of the party while discouraging division and conflict.
The Resident Minister for the Southern Region, John Abu, opened the event by thanking the people of Pujehun for their active participation in development initiatives. He encouraged unity and love among party members, urging them to rise above negativity and work collaboratively for the betterment of the community.
The event culminated in cultural performances, celebrating the community’s rich heritage and the significance of the new party office initiative in Pujehun.
