Opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has called on Sierra Leone’s Inspector-General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, to grant bail to Admire Bio, who is reportedly being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over an alleged gold scam.

According to sources, Admire Bio remains in police custody as investigations into the alleged fraud continue.

In a public appeal, Kamarainba urged the police leadership to respect Admire Bio’s fundamental rights and allow her to be released on bail.

“Admire Bio deserves bail,” Kamarainba said. “I’m calling on the IG of Police, William Fayia Sellu, to respect her human rights and grant her bail.”

He further argued that, as a Sierra Leonean citizen, Admire Bio is entitled to the protections guaranteed by law and should be afforded her legal rights during the investigation process.

“I’m totally against human rights abuse,” the opposition politician stated. “The rule of law and justice for all must be fully respected at all times, for every citizen.”

Kamarainba’s comments come against the backdrop of his own controversial legal history. The opposition figure has been viewed by some Sierra Leoneans as a victim of prolonged detention following his conviction for sexual penetration of a minor. However, Kamarainba and his supporters have consistently rejected the allegations, maintaining that the case against him was politically motivated.

In recent years, Kamarainba has resorted to his role of being a vocal critic of President Julius Maada Bio, frequently criticising the president’s overseas travels and what he describes as inadequate measures to address the country’s economic challenges.
