NGC Leadership Faces Power Struggle Over Alleged Rule Violations

The National Grand Coalition (NGC) is grappling with internal discord as a faction led by Secretary General Amadu Sheriff faces accusations of violating the party’s constitution and principles.

The leadership alleges that the group ignored a court-ordered injunction and attempted to hold an unauthorized convention to claim key leadership roles, actions that party officials say threaten its unity and integrity.

In a statement released Thursday, the NGC reaffirmed Jesmed F. Suma as its Chairman and Leader, denouncing Sheriff’s actions as illegitimate and contrary to the party’s values. Public Relations Officer Wilfred Almamy Wyse emphasized that all current executive officers at ward, constituency, district, and regional levels remain in their positions until the next party elections, scheduled for 2025.

The statement identified key members, including Foday M. Kebe, Alimamy Juma Tarawally, and Mohamed Alpha Jalloh, as fully paid and legitimate members who hold elected positions within the party.

“The NGC remains steadfast in upholding its constitution and principles. We urge members and the public to disregard any communications or actions from Amadu Sheriff and his associates,” the party said.

Party leadership further criticized Sheriff’s group for allegedly acting out of personal interest and hinted at their potential alignment with rival parties. “To Amadu Sheriff and his collaborators, we emphasize that they are free to seek membership elsewhere, including with the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP),” the statement read.

Chairman Suma is set to convene a critical meeting with national officers on Friday to deliberate on safeguarding the party’s future and addressing the ongoing crisis.

The NGC called for calm among its members, urging them to avoid confrontational engagements while the leadership formulates a detailed course of action.

“Rogue elements seeking to destabilize the party have no place within the NGC,” the statement concluded.

The party pledged to release further updates as it navigates this internal challenge, vowing to remain committed to its founding values and long-term vision.
