The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has continued its examination of issues raised in the 2024 Auditor General’s Report, engaging several Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and state-owned enterprises as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
The hearing, chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament and PAC Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, was held on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at the Administrative Building Conference Hall in Parliament.
The engagement forms part of Parliament’s constitutional oversight mandate to scrutinize the financial operations of public institutions and ensure compliance with established financial management regulations.
During the proceedings, the Committee reviewed audit findings relating to a number of institutions, including the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), West African Holdings Sierra Leone Limited, Sierra Block Concrete Products Limited, Sierra Estate Management Company Limited, Commerce and Mortgage Bank, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs Headquarters.
Representatives from the respective institutions appeared before the Committee to respond to audit queries and provide explanations regarding issues highlighted in the Auditor General’s Report. Discussions focused on matters relating to financial management, regulatory compliance, institutional governance, and the utilization of public funds.
Committee members sought clarifications on various audit observations and assessed the measures taken by the institutions to address identified concerns. According to officials present at the hearing, some of the audit issues were satisfactorily resolved through explanations and supporting documentation, while others require further verification by auditors.
Addressing the proceedings, the Committee underscored the importance of accountability and prudent financial management within public institutions, emphasizing that all entities entrusted with public resources must adhere to established laws and financial regulations.
The Public Accounts Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that recommendations contained in the Auditor General’s Report are fully implemented and that institutions take corrective measures where necessary.
Parliament maintains that effective oversight remains critical to promoting transparency, strengthening public confidence in state institutions, and ensuring the efficient use of public resources in support of national development.
The ongoing PAC hearings are expected to continue as Parliament examines additional institutions cited in the 2024 Auditor General’s Report.
