The Anti-Corruption Commission and Corruption Watch Sierra Leone have reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration in the fight against corruption, following a high-level engagement in Freetown.

The development was disclosed by the National Coordinator of Corruption Watch Sierra Leone, Alhaji Abu Koroma, who visited the Commission on Thursday, April 30, 2026, to extend partnership greetings to the leadership of the institution.

According to Koroma, the meeting involved discussions with the Commissioner of the ACC, Francis Ben Kaifala, and his team, focusing on strengthening operational strategies in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone. He stated that key issues were “well discussed” during the engagement, which he described as productive and insightful.

Koroma noted that the interaction provided him with a deeper appreciation of the Commission’s leadership and approach. He described Commissioner Kaifala as “a leader with actions” and indicated that the ACC Boss offered guidance on what he termed “a very serious matter regarding the operational system in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.”

He further expressed confidence in the leadership of the Commission, stating that entrusting such responsibility to a young leader like Kaifala would “definitely bring positive changes to the life of the Sierra Leonean.”

On areas of cooperation, Koroma said both parties discussed partnership on joint interventions, with a focus on how Corruption Watch Sierra Leone can intensify its efforts while continuing to recognize the work of the ACC. He emphasized that the organization remains committed to supporting national efforts to combat corruption.

Koroma also disclosed that Commissioner Kaifala assured the organization of institutional backing, noting that Corruption Watch would be protected by the Commission as long as it operates within its mandate. He added that the Commissioner expressed readiness to provide administrative support, including mobility and other resources, to enhance the operations of Corruption Watch Sierra Leone.

In addition, the ACC Commissioner encouraged the organization to strengthen its engagement with regional directors across the country. According to Koroma, the Commissioner assured them that regional offices would continue to offer guidance and the necessary support to facilitate their activities.

The meeting notably reflects growing cooperation between the ACC and civil society actors, as both sides seek to enhance coordinated responses in addressing corruption in Sierra Leone.
