The Sierra Leone Police has dismissed three Operational Support Division (OSD) officers for possession of drugs suspected to be kush.

Chief Superintendent Franklyn Bawoh, Head of the Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID), announced the dismissals on Wednesday.

The first officer, PC 15808 Ibrahim Alhaji Kamara, was arrested and brought in for questioning after a video went viral on social media showing him being shaved by youths while in uniform. He was found guilty of five charges related to improper conduct, neglect of duty, and disobeying orders. His dismissal was finalized on March 27, 2024.

The second officer, PC 14772 Joseph TM Contch Koroma, was arrested on March 16th at Kingtom Dump Site with a suspected quantity of kush. He faced three charges of improper conduct, neglect of duty, and prejudice to good order and discipline. Following a hearing, he was found guilty and dismissed from the force on March 26th, 2024.

The third officer, PC 16474 Mohamed Dumbuya, was arrested on March 27th in Grafton Old Camp with a suspected quantity of kush. He had reportedly been previously investigated by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for similar offenses.

He was charged with three counts of improper conduct, failing to comply with orders, and prejudice to good order and discipline. Like the others, he was found guilty and dismissed on the same day.

Chief Superintendent Bawoh emphasized the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to maintaining a professional and law-abiding force. The dismissals serve as a strong message that drug possession and other misconduct will not be tolerated within the ranks.
