Resident Minister East, Gbessay Jusu Jaka Ngobeh, has announced the suspension of palm oil transportation from Sierra Leone to Guinea at the Bailu crossing point in Kailahun District.
This decision aims to protect local interests, as many residents believe.
The announcement was made during a meeting with police personnel in Kailahun District. The Bailu Crossing Point is a key transit area for various goods, including palm oil, moving between the two countries. In light of recent challenges in the district, Minister Ngobeh emphasized the need to maintain order and security in the region.
Local business owners have been instructed to return all palm oil shipments within the next 72 hours, with compliance required by Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Many residents of Kailahun District have expressed their support for the minister’s action, viewing it as a necessary step to safeguard local interests. “We appreciate the decision; it shows that our concerns are being heard,” remarked a local trader.
Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kailahun Police Division, Mr. Sesay, confirmed that the directive will be strictly enforced, assuring the community of law enforcement’s commitment to uphold the new policy.
Thank you Mr minister, but would that be the solution to the problem?
I’m smelling another huge inflation rate in that part of the country 🇸🇱🇸🇱
I hope that similar action would be taken in the North West region, particularly Kambia District.
